3rd Annual 3rd Ave Suit Party
3rd Annual 3rd Ave Suit Party
About five years ago, my friend Jerome invited me to meet Nick, his tailor from Hong Kong and get measured for a custom suit. After some prodding several of us Prentice Hall guys travelled ten miles down Rt. 17 to Paramus, NJ where we met Nick at the luxurious Marriott Courtyard. We got measured, which I hadn’t done since the prom (I think I repressed the memory of the inseam measurement). We gave Nick our credit card information and went back to work. On the way back, I wasn’t the only one thinking, “this better be legit ‘cause Hong Kong is a long way to go for a refund.”
Long story short, the suits showed up about a month later and they were amazing. The fit, the fabric, and the quality were all top notch. I bought two suits and a shirt. I’ve bought eight more suits from Nick since then, including the suit I got married in. I’ve been equally happy with all of them.
So when Nick asked me if I had any friends that would be interested in his services, I first thought of the wonderful suits - then I thought about the Marriott Courtyard. I think wearing a custom suit or shirt is a premium experience. Getting your inseam measured in room 1574 is something different .
So my idea was to find a nice place where we can hang out, drink, get measured, drink some more, check out some fabric swatches, but generally relax. Luckily my wife, Allison talked me into moving into such a place.
We had our best turn out so far at last year’s party. Everyone had a great time. Last year I went heavy on the shirts and that tuned out to be a great decision. This year I think I’m going to take it easy on the french cuffs.
So this year’s party is March 27th on the roof (inside) of my building again. I’ll provide food and drinks. Plan to arrive around 7pm. Nick will be there until around 9:30. You can stay long after . Guests (including spouses) are welcome.
Best,
Patrice
How this all began
Our friend, Eric Severson took both of these pictures from the roof of our building. The picture on the left is facing west over central park, on the right is the northwest view of the George Washington Bridge.
